Going Pro

Read Time: 4 minutes

In this issue we’re going to help you professionalize your way of living by shattering the "trying" paradigm that is undoubtedly limiting your potential. It’s time to embrace a more powerful approach: training. When you contrast these two mentalities it becomes clear that they lead us in very different directions.

Have you ever thought to yourself, maybe I need to "just try harder"?

We've all been there: "Try reading this book, try using that technique, try attending a workshop, try to stress less." But let's be honest, the "trying" approach to personal development and leadership effectiveness typically leads to disappointment, frustration, and exhaustion in the long run.

Flourishing leadership isn't about fleeting attempts or heroic efforts. It’s about living On Purpose. Embarking on a deliberate, intentional journey towards mastery, demanding commitment, consistent action, and a lifelong pursuit of learning.

Why "Trying" Won't Cut It

Misguided Effort. Trying requires just as much effort, but lacks specific goals and structured practice that compound the effort, leaving you susceptible to discouragement when results vary or setbacks arise. It's like fixing a leaky pipe with duct tape – temporary and ineffective.

Encourages Passivity. Simply "trying" is reactive. It teaches us to wait for inspiration to strike or disappointment to provoke. This passivity hinders proactiveness, a skill crucial for navigating the complexities of personal and leadership growth

Limits Progress. Without consistent and targeted practice, it's impossible to develop and refine your desired skills. Just as a muscle needs regular exercise to grow stronger, your personal and leadership effectiveness require dedicated training.

The Training Advantage

Builds Resilience. Consistent training fosters self-efficacy, the belief in your ability to achieve your goals despite the circumstances. Over time this boosts confidence, a quiet confidence in your ability to engage in hard things. This empowers you to act more intentional when faced with challenges.

Upgrades Defaults. Deliberate practice creates and strengthens neural pathways, making desirable behaviors automatic over time. By training, you transform goals into ingrained operating systems, paving the way for lasting change.

Activates Potential. Training equips you with the framework necessary to transcend any given outcome in pursuit of full potential. Training gives context to our work empowering us to remain consistent even when things aren’t going our way. When training, both successes and failures serve the same purpose. They help inform the next iteration of the plan. Training keeps you growing.
