We have a money problem. This is a hard truth that most of us try to ignore for as long as possible. We all believe we’re different. That we’re uniquely qualified to navigate the tensions that exist between the worldly pursuit of wealth and the complete surrender to God’s will.

We live in a hyper materialistic culture. We love stuff more than we love God. We spend more time fantasizing about our next promotion than we do considering leveling up our faith. We spend more time lusting over the modern farmhouse kitchen remodel than we do in awe of God’s word. We spend more time obsessing over the Instagram worthy weekend getaway than we do contemplating the praiseworthy impact of God’s unfailing love.

This is not to say we can’t have nice things and have God too. This is about motives and mindset. This is about putting God first, and allotting what little is left to these other things.

Transformational leaders aren’t fooled into believing they can pursue worldly riches and the kingdom at the same time. They understand that with every desire, thought, or action we are either moving closer to God or further away from him. They love God, and use things. They know the answer to our problems is always more God, not more money.
