Freedom of Choice

Freedom of Choice

September 26, 2023

“Regardless of what else you put on, wear love; it's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it” (Colossians 3:14)

“Freedom of choice is an american virtue” this was the opening line of a PBS article my pastor referenced during a recent sermon.

I could not have agreed with this statement anymore, but in true human fashion we’ve managed to take a good thing and turn it into an all-consuming thing.

We’ve become so obsessed with exercising this freedom of choice that we now find ourselves overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choices we’re faced with on a daily basis.

It’s estimated that the average adult makes approximately 35,000 remotely conscious decisions each day.

Paradoxically, the very thing we pursue to increase our happiness is actually increasing our perceived stress and worsening our decision-making.

This entire paradox should serve as a case study for how Drift works.

It distracts us from our purposeful existence by leaving the impression that everything is important and warrants our time and attention.

The reality is not all decisions are created equal.

Prioritizing decision making efforts is a must for living On Purpose.

A simple strategy for this is to focus efforts on what you “Will Do!”

As exemplified in this scripture, some things in life should just be automatic regardless of what’s going on in your life.
