Stagnant Faith
September 19, 2023
“God can do anything, you know - far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams.” (Ephesians 3:20 MSG)
There’s nothing that injects purpose into our lives like a dream. Simply put, dreams grow our faith.
There’s nothing more passive than a lack of dreaming. To not dream is to willingly sign up for the stagnation of your faith.
When we don’t dream, our motivation drifts. The meaning behind our behaviors become distorted because we lack clarity on life.
We backfill our days with half-hearted hobbies, entertainment, and the daily grind of work. But deep down we’re bored, apathetic, anxious and frustrated.
Bored, apathetic, anxious, frustrated is what it looks and feels like when our motivation drifts.
Earlier this year, Rick Warren released a framework for how God uses dreams in our lives. He outlined the six phases God grows our faith through dreams. Let this six phase process serve as an audit for our lives.
Phase 1: Dream - God puts a dream in your heart
Phase 2: Decision - You make the decision to go after the dream
Phase 3: Delays - God allows delays to get you ready for the dream
Phase 4: Difficulties - You face problems that grow your character
Phase 5: Dead Ends - Your situation becomes impossible
Phase 6: Deliverance - God miraculously fulfills the dream
Which phase would you say you are in?
In light of the phase you are in, what needs purposeful attention right now?
Take inventory of your life. What needs to be audited?
