Stop Defending
April 18, 2023
(Matthew 27:13-14) “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you? But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge - to the great amazement of the governor.”
The more secure you are in your authentic definition of success, the less you feel the need to proclaim and defend.
In this age of influence it can be tempting for leaders and influencers to turn up the volume in an effort to “keep up.”
Such a move would be foolish for a leader to engage in.
The truth is, an authentic leader, living an authentic definition of success, rooted and grounded in a strong spiritual core doesn’t have to get louder. To get louder would be forfeiting their true position of secure influence.
When the counterfeit is getting louder and louder, the authentic turns the volume down.
An insecure leader finds themselves in a lot of drama and conflict. An insecure leader works very hard with their words to establish themselves as an authority.
People can see from miles away when a leader wants to be exalted. The louder a leader yells, the less authority they actually have. The loudest leader in the room is often the most insecure leader in the room.
One of the most dangerous signs of drifting is feeling as if you aren’t respected or appreciated.
When ambition drifts, we tend to feel a desire to shield our insecurity with our words. It’s not always the case, but often silence = security.
Do you feel like you have to promote yourself? Defend yourself? Defend your methods? The more you feel you have to defend/promote/explain yourself the more it’s likely ambition drift has caused you to feel insecure about what you determine to be success.
Turn your insecurity into a genuine desire to serve others.
Stop shouting and start looking for ways to make things about everybody but you.
Less talking, more reflecting. Live with your own personal scorecard.
Deepen your relationship with what you determine to be success.
