Green & Flourishing

S-T-C Tuesday: Green & Flourishing

February 21, 2023

“...Being a descendant of Abraham is dime a dozen. What counts is your life. Is it green and flourishing? Because if it’s deadwood, it goes on the fire.” (Matthew 3:10)

The greatest problem facing our leadership development isn’t “out there.”

It’s “in here.”

  • Our own root system.

  • Our own relationship to our pursuits.

  • Our own well-being.

  • Our own apathy even though we’re often motivated.

  • Our own lack of engagement with the transformative experiences in front of us.

  • Our own dissatisfaction with what we’ve got, where we’re at and what we’re doing.

Everyday there is an assault on our ability to live on purpose and focus on becoming the type of leader we want to be. We’re bombarded with our own sense of drifting. Balancing too many things. Busy schedules. Weighing in on every hot topic. Distractions to do whatever it takes to keep us a little less focused on purpose.

Drifting goes to one place and one place only. A state of languishing.

We sometimes think we have to have the right opinions, certifications, degrees, positions to live purposefully.

Dime a dozen. They’re handed out like candy on trick-or-treat night. Purposeful living is an inside-out journey.

Purposeful living leads to purposeful leading.

And it only happens when we take our inside-life seriously:

  • Slow down

  • Breathe

  • Come back to the moment

  • Receive the good

  • Accept the hard as a transformational opportunity

  • Abide in God

Flourishing is an inside-job. Can’t be delegated. Can’t be outsourced. Can’t be put off to the future when we reach a certain mile-marker.

Flourishing is the result of taking our inside-life seriously.

You can only take your inside-life seriously one moment at a time. Starting with the present moment.
