Scripture
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest..”
Matthew 11:28
Thought
There are moments on our journey in which the weight of what we have been carrying becomes exhausting. The weight of leadership. The weight of decision making, culture building, organizing, and striving.
There is always a point of plateauing in our pursuits. Maybe you came out of the gates hot. A rapid rise, rapid growth and rapid expansion. It’s not uncommon for high-stepping to turn into slow crawling at some point.
On our transformational leadership journey there will always be ebbs and flows. If you find yourself tired, worn out, and burned out it may be time to press pause and do some inner reflection. The deep work of finding out what is weighing our souls down is worth the lag in production from time to time.
Where is your identity? Is it attached to the very production that is lagging? Is it dependent on the success of your team, business, or dream? We are only as secure as where we place our identity.
Only a fool would place their identity in something they could lose. Your leadership life matters. But your soul life matters more.
If you want to recover your inner life, take a rest today in the presence of the one who breaths life into your soul. You don’t need to go to the temple. You don’t need to run up the mountains to the monastery. You can invite him in right now. At your desk at work, in your armchair with coffee, on the subway during the commute, in the parking lot at the gym.
Your inner life is right where you are. And it is affecting everything in your leadership life.
